Letter to the Editor - Better care
Bronx: Re: “Eric plan to trim the fat” (Feb. 16): Mayor Adams is correct to name childcare as a fundamental need for families and a driver of economic opportunity. He has an opportunity in the city’s budget to invest broadly in a childcare system that empowers working families and sets our children up for long-term success. This includes recognizing the central role of family childcare to our economy and our children’s growth, especially for infants and toddlers. Investing in childcare also makes good fiscal sense. A study of our model of supporting and sustaining family childcare educators showed that every dollar invested generates $15-$20 in economic benefits to the region. As the mayor looks to direct the city’s resources strategically, we must include resources for the childcare workers who are keeping our city afloat.
